What’s new in version 14.0.5

Improvement and changes
  • We have updated key data structures in our code base to optimize memory allocation. This is positively impacting overall performance, especially in areas where large amounts of data are handled—such as start-up time, loading and saving large projects, and moving a significant number of events at once.
  • All Cubase versions are now available through a single installer. Whether you’re installing Cubase Elements or Cubase Pro, the same installer applies, with the version that opens determined solely by your license. Upgrading from Elements to Cubase Pro no longer requires a reinstall.
  • Cubase 14 introduces a completely revamped Score Editor powered by Dorico, our renowned music notation and composition software. This new Dorico-based Score Editor replaces the previous version, bringing numerous enhancements and a refined focus.
  • We are excited to introduce support for DAWproject files in Cubase 14. DAWproject is an open file format enabling seamless project transfers between DAWs, offering users greater flexibility and efficiency. This format allows you to transfer entire projects with the full structure—tracks, channels, and groups—preserved, eliminating the need to export individual stems and reducing time and effort.

We have been using Cubase for a very long time: from 1990 until now. We have gone through the whole evolution. Unfortunately Cubase 9 was already a big disappointment and a step backwards in terms of usability compared to all previous versions. Cubase 10 is even more steps backwards. It is a colour box with a lot of small icons behind which the many functions are hidden. It really is a maze of illogically placed possibilities that stops your creative inspiration and leaves you frustrated with your music. The only positive point is that Cubase 10 now finally supports HiDPI. But it doesn't help to make the terrible new interface better. There are also a lot of bugs in the current version. Old projects are not always read in properly, it regularly crashes, ... It all no longer works pleasantly and smoothly. Really very regrettable. Once Cubase was the king of many studios, in recent years we have seen Cubase disappear and replaced by Logic Pro X, Ableton Live and ProTools. Really very unfortunate. Our conclusion: Cubase has put itself in the ranks of 'the toy' music tools, together with Fruityloops, Reaper, Bitwig Studio and Mulab. And doesn't deserve to have such a high price tag.

Not sure what all the complaining is about... yes, they changed the GUI, but it doesn't take long to find your way around. I've been using Cubase since VST24 4.0. I also use ProTools and Logic. I still prefer Cubase.

Ones the leading DAW, now a feature loaded mess with an awful GUI that just doesn't make any sense when you need a good work flow. Steinberg did a great job creating Pro24 on Atari up to VST5. They lost it with version SX and higher.

Cubase 7 was a complete failure app, I've got from 7.0 payed 100euro, than other 50euro for fix the bugs in 7.5 not completely fixed, no 7.5.30 with tons of bugs to and 7.5.40 final release before 8 with bugs not fixed yet in 8.0. I've purchased 8 upgrade paying 100euro again, and the app still crash with 3rd party plugs, cpu spikes with RME audio cards, and tons of new bugs not in the previous version, than I'm still working with 6.5.5 because is the only stable Cubase under OSX. I've asked also a refund but steinberg refuse it. 4 years of developing for an unuseful app on Mac. I've switched to Logic X now, I'm not happy but the app works with Native Instruments, Melodyne and all other plugs without problem.
